The former deputy director of the FBI who was fired Friday by President Donald Trump's attorney general has memos that document his conversations with the president, a source told ABC News. The memos are akin to documentation of meetings with the president kept by McCabe's former boss, James Comey, the FBI director fired by Trump.

McCabe's documents have been turned over to special counsel Robert Mueller, who is heading the Russia investigation, the source said.

The news of McCabe's memos that detail interactions with the president was first reported by The Associated Press.

McCabe was fired Friday, just two days before he was set to retire from government after nearly 22 years in federal law enforcement.

In an interview with ABC News, he pushed back, claiming he's been caught up in a politically-motivated effort to hurt the Russia investigation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said he decided to fire McCabe based on the findings of the Justice Department’s internal watchdog, which concluded that McCabe allegedly misled investigators looking into how Justice Department and FBI officials handled matters associated with the 2016 presidential election.

The former FBI official, who at one time was deputy director, told ABC News he wanted to make one thing clear: “I firmly believe what’s happening to me right now … is just a piece of an ongoing assault” on the FBI and Mueller. The special counsel is investigating Russia's alleged efforts to help Trump win the 2016 election and possible collusion between Trump associates and Russian operatives.

McCabe said he “played a significant role and witnessed significant events” after Trump fired James Comey as FBI director last year, and for that reason, he said, “A concentrated effort to consistently undermine my credibility and my reputation makes perfect sense if you are trying to undermine the efforts of the special counsel and discredit the entire FBI.”

Trump fired McCabe (and Comey) because they didn’t do right by Hillary clinton. Seriously, that is what the claim is. Anyone who believes that is an idiot.

Looks like either McCabe or Comey lied about leaking information about the clinton investigation to the press...McCabe says he did it with the directors knowledge (which was Comey) but Comey testified that he never authorized anyone to leak information about that investigation to the press.

People can write down anything on paper. What he did still reamains the same.

What should have happened is that he should have been allowed to retire, and if the accusations from the report were true and egregious enough then they could have gone after the pension instead of rushing to judgment.

Can't wait to read that IG report...

So many are afraid of a Constitutional Crisis! The is no crisis! All they have to do is follow the Constitution, the way they swore to do. Just do your jobs!!! The only crisis is that they have steadfastly refused to rein Trump in!

McCabe was a Marine and of course he learned to write memo's of record about his dealings with #45. It's a common practice in DoD to write memo's to cover your butt. I'm a Vet and I still write memo's and I'm retired.

You know "Don" the TELL ALL BOOKS ARE GOING TO RIP YOU UP..........Happy Landings.......

How many times is Trump going to say "there was absolutely no collusion" ? If there was no collusion why are you so worried about it ? Obstruction of justice maybe.

Sessions is a little weasel and lied to the committee at his hearing for his post. He is now trying to get back into Trump's good books. He really needs to answer for his lies just as Trump does.

  • Kobrakai7272

Trump apparently doesn't understand the difference between simultaneous and contemporaneous notes. He will find out soon enough.

  • Independent

It appears it is necessary to keep notes of any meeting with trump. While it is unlikely, It would be great if he secretly videod the meeting but since we have his word versus the word of a known pathological liar and he has mistreated others in the same way, guess I will accept McCabe's word

  • Hulk Slogan

Ah, so he sat on the real explosive stuff eh? Until he was fired?

    Right. He's got nothing.

The guy was fired for unauthorized leaks and lying repeatedly, including under oath. Sorry, but that'll get you fired every time....and possibly prosecuted.

McCabe says that he provided info about the clinton investigation to the press with Comeys blessing...didn’t Comey testify that he never authorized anyone to communicate information about that investigation to the press?

I see where the highly respected attorney Jonathan Turley of the George Washington Law School says
MaCabe should worry more about prison than his pension.

  • sixstrings

Why did McCabe make such a big deal about the fact that he’s always been a Republican if ones political leanings don’t matter?

  • Sir Real

Document. Document. Document. I cannot tell you how many times my contemporaneous notes were used as evidence, and I wasn't even in the FBI.

  • sixstrings

The report wouldn’t conclude that he allegedly mislead anyone...it would conclude that he either did or didn’t mislead someone.

What kind of investigation would conclude that the allegation they are investigating was actually alleged?

Who wrote this...an 8 year old?
